APOLLO 11 MISSION TRIPTYCH

Created: May 2025 | Medium: Charcoal, Graphite, Pastels

This was made for my Drawing 2 final, where we had to tell a historic event or something alike in a triptych. I chose the Apollo 11 mission to the Moon as my topic as I found the topic of space travel intriguing as well as it being the first time humans managed to land on the Moon. The major moments of the mission can be perfectly split up into a three act structure: The Launch, The Landing, and The Return. For The Launch, I opted for using a 3D model of the ship as a reference for the perspective I wanted to achieve. Thus the angle guides the viewer up the image and to the tip of the rocket where it points to its destination. The Landing seemed straightforward, just add the US flag planted into the Moon, but I wanted to add in the astronaut into the image as to not make this part feel lonely as well as add a reflection to the astronaut’s visor for fun. Finally, The Return, showing the aftermath of the splashdown and the raft next to the spacecraft ready for recovering.
