LOW POLY KILN OF THE FIRST FLAME

This was the final project I did for my 3D Modelling class. Based after the final area in Dark Souls 3 where you fight the Soul of Cinder. I remember wanting to do this specific area for my 3D Modelling final since of how stunning the desolate arena is especially when paired with the eclipse serving as the backdrop as well as the initial fight with Soul of Cinder being memorable. I decided on going for a similar low poly, isometric style that I already did for the Cyberpunk Scene as I loved working with that style.
PROCESS
The process started with searching up photos of the area itself as well as going into Dark Souls 3 and taking snapshots to refresh my memory on the visual elements the area had: the weapons in the ground, the flowers strewn throughout the arena, the pillars at the entrance, and finally the Coiled Sword at the center of the arena. I created the base land as well as any surrounding formations and the entry pillars. Following that I did the weapons, which during my research I noticed that some of the spears have no tip to them and planted them throughout. The first challenge came in the form of the flowers, although they were not too much of a hassle to make, creating multiple was the issue as the tool that would help spread them all out did not display the pedals since those was considered a separate model, meaning I had to manually duplicate and spread the flowers out. The biggest challenge was figuring out the Coiled Sword itself, more so how to make something low poly coiled like the Soul of Cinder’s weapon. The solution was dividing the rectangle that would be the blade with lines and twist each of them slightly to achieve the twisted look. I made the bonfire to plant the Coiled Sword into and added the finishing touches through the texturing, adding a metal material to the spears and swords, and finally the burning glow of the Coiled Sword and ash surrounding the sword in the bonfire. An unfortunately scrapped idea was to make a low poly version of the Soul of Cinder himself resting next to the bonfire, but did not have enough time to make that possible.
